SUMMARY:NYS Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Coordinator
DESCRIPTION:The Dignity for All Students Act is a state law intended to create a learning environment free of bullying\, harassment\, and  discrimination for ALL students. This is not an easy task. Implementation requires policies and procedures as well as intentional actions to create a safe and supportive school climate where all students know they are valued members of the school community. An integral component of successful implementation is a knowledgeable\, empowered\, and empathetic Dignity Act Coordinator. This session will provide information to Dignity Act Coordinators on the technical requirements of Dignity Act implementation as well as the adaptive skills essential for receiving and responding to incident reports. Misconceptions surrounding School Safety and the Educational Climate (SSEC) reporting will be addressed to ensure attendees are equipped to support questions around reporting. (Please note this is not the 6-hour  course for teacher certification). \n\nUnderstand the regulatory requirements of the Dignity Act\nLearn more about your role as a Dignity Act Coordinator\nIdentify key resources to guide effective implementation of the Dignity Act\n\nWho Should Attend: School personnel designated as a building’s Dignity Act Coordinator \nInstructor: Tina Tierney\, Director of School Safety and Security\nPrior to joining our team\, Tina served as the Director of the New York State Center for School Safety for the New York State Education Department. Tina has extensive experience in developing and delivering training and professional development on the Dignity for All Students Act\, the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) Act\, School Safety and the Educational  Climate (SSEC) reporting\, and school climate.
